The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has cracked down on Pakistan’s top influencers for promoting gambling apps on social media.
After the long physical remand of Ducky Bhai and the arrest of his wife Aroob Jatoi in the case, the NCCIA has now sent notices to Pakistan’s top YouTubers and social media influencers. The NCCIA wants to conduct a detailed inquiry into the promotion of gambling apps by Rajab Butt, Iqra Kanwal, Nadeem Naniwala, and Anas Ali.
The NCCIA started with Ducky Bhai and his wife Aroob Jatoi, who were promoting a gambling app with their millions of daily YouTube viewers. The agency also seized millions of rupees of Ducky Bhai’s money that was transacted through the gambling app.
According to the agency’s inquiry notice, YouTubers include Rajab Butt, Iqra Kanwal and Anas Ali are required to appear in court on September 9. Written notice also sent toward them last week.
Center of attention is Rajab Butt, as he is one of the most followed YouTubers today. The agency has some information about him and concerns that he might be:
- Encouraged Pakistani youth through their platforms to invest in gambling apps.
- Betting and gambling are being promoted in the form of sponsorships on their multiple social channels.
- Dedicated plan is designed to make people waste their hard-earned money on gambling.
The appearance of these three in court has been made mandatory, and if they do not appear, the decision will be in favor of the agency that Rajab Butt, Iqra Kanwal, and Anas Ali do not have any solid evidence to defend themselves.
Barrister Mian Ali Ashfaq, who is currently Rajab Butt’s lawyer, says that Rajab will appear in court on September 9 to defend himself with all the evidence.
Rajab Butt, Iqra Kanwal and Anas Ali are not allowed to leave the country, and if they are in a foreign country, they must be present in Pakistan to appear in court before September 9.
Earlier, Saad-ur-Rehman alias Ducky Bhai was also arrested by the NCCIA while leaving Lahore Airport for another country, and his physical remand is still ongoing, which has been extended for another 3 days.
